Bushmen

Bushmen, also known as the indigenous people of southern Africa. It is thought that there are 100,000 indigenous individuals living in southern Africa. - and it has been that way for many years. This group of Africans is known as hunters and gatherers. If you do not know what hunters and gathers are they are individuals who hunt for their food whether that be meat or plants. 


Though I believe these indigenous people living off the land are amazing that is not the case for Africa. Many of the Bushmen have been forced out of their lands, similar to the Native Americans in the Americas. The reason they have been forced out is natural resources such as diamonds. Though they have since been able to return the government has made it very difficult. Difficult as in blocking off their water sources.

Bushman woman Xoroxloo Duxee from the Metsiamenong community, died of dehydration and starvation in 2005 after the government blockaded the reserve and armed guards prevented her people from hunting, gathering or obtaining water, Botswana.

My History

Good Afternoon! A few years ago I actually had an ancestry DNA test done. I am biracial. In regards to my African identity, I am 17% Cameroonian, Congolese, and Bantu, 11% Nigerian, 6% Ivorian, 4% Malian, and 2% Beninese and Togolese, and 2% Senegalese. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to learn a little more about the main identity; Cameroonian and Congolese! Cameroon, Congo, and Bantu While searching on the web I found the following... Cameroon is located in Africa between western and central Africa. Its name comes from Rio Dos Camarões. This means "river of prawns".  Cameroon looks like a beautiful place full of many different ecosystems. There are mountains, savannahs, basins, coastal plains, forests, etc. The country has more than 200 different ethnic groups. There are 3 main linguistics; Bantu, Sudanic, and Semi Bantu. Rites of Passage

  The African Continent is full of culture and traditions. African people use these rites of passage to develop individual growth and community-oriented individuals. There are five major rites of passages. Rite of birth, rite of adulthood, rite of marriage, rite of eldership, and rite of ancestorship. Rite of birth usually involves rituals and a naming ceremony. Rite of adulthood involves shaping productive community members. Rite of marriage involves joining two families and two individuals. Rite of eldership involves older (someone who is old but does not "deserve" respect and praise, while elder is respected and praised.
